The University of Ulster Elks have been crowned Glas Bowl VI champions today at the National Sports Campus, defeating the University of Limerick Vikings in the final by a score of 34-22.
The begin the day, the bracket looked like this: the 3rd seeded Elks were set to face the 6th seeded Lakeland Gators, while the 4th seeded Vikings saw the 5th seeded Dublin City Wolves. The 1st seed Louth Mavericks awaited the lower seeded team that advanced, while the 2nd seed Edenderry Eagles would see the higher seed.
In the Wildcard round, the Elks defeated the Gators 34-25, while the Vikings defeated the Wolves 38-25, both teams avoiding the spirited upset attempt by their opponents. Then in the semifinal, two thrilling nail biters saw both of the previously undefeated, top seeded teams fall in shock results. The Elks toppled the Eagles 33-32 in a game that went to overtime, and the Vikings knocked off the Mavericks 26-25, ending the Mavericks storied season prematurely.
The 3rd place game saw the Mavericks defeat the Eagles 41-34 to take home the bronze, surely a disappointing result for both teams, but one they can use as strong motivation for next year.
Glas Bowl VI came down to two university squads, playing each other for the first time this year, saw the Elks triumph by a final score of 34-22, crowning them champions of Division 1 Mixed Flag for 2025 and earning them automatic promotion the Premier Division for 2026.
